I fell head over heels in love with this book! This gave me all the feels I didn't know I needed! If your a gamer or a boyband fan this is def the book for you! Just perfect! Will be reading it over and over again in the future!
3 stars?
I don't think I read the same as everyone else.
It was kind of like a rollercoaster of feelings. The first half was fine even though I had a couple of issues and then I hit the 200-page mark and wanted to DNF it and then the 20 last pages redeemed it a bit.
Things I enjoyed:
Noah (I WANTED HIM TO BE THE LOVE INTEREST!!)
The music fandom thing
The friendships
Things I didn't like.
Claudia's personality─or, rather, her lack of personality. Her best friend says that Cladia cares so much but like... she doesn't? Even her feelings for Gideon are never discussed; she always refuses to spend time with him. Like, she lowkey rejects him over and over and he continues to let her walk over his toes.
like what?
I never understood why Gideon liked Claudia to begin with... He sees her and BAM! he's all over her. I get it that he can be extroverted and stuff but they have ZERO deep conversation and they never discuss what they like about each other.
Plus, apparently, they are supposed to be 17-18 years old? They felt like they 15 MAX.
I didn't buy the romance whatsoever which is so weird because all the reviews seem to rave about it. Am I the only one who missed the evolution? Has Claudia once done something nice to Gideon? He's always the one doing nice things for her. She only says no and ditches him and lets rumours dictate her feelings...
I don't know, man...
This was extremely underwhelming.

This was a cute, light-hearted, easy read. I was able to finish in two days, and that's with a newborn and two year old at home, if that says anything haha!
The story was adorable, funny, and a perfect teen book. I loved how this book avoided so many tropes that a lot of YA contemporary books fall into. All of the characters felt so real and their relationships and interactions with each other were perfect. It was such a refreshing take on a YA book about high school students. It was a great book that made me smile, and I can't ask for anything more than that! It's probably not something I'll read again, but I enjoyed it immensely! Definitely recommend this to anyone who likes this genre!

"Gideon lets out an unholy snort, and I dissolve into giggles. I bury my face into the crook of his neck, and we both laugh, holding each other tight."
My first Emma Mills! And it was fantastic!
I’m not going to lie, it was extremely tropey. I mean you’ve got:
- The quirky loner
- Ex that ruined her perception of love
- Best friend since diapers she fights with them reconciles (complete with a symbolic object™️)
- Side character with chronic illness
- New friend who is mean but then gets nice
- Best friend dates brother!
- Wise older sister
- Love interest that’s littttllleee insta-lovey but also slow burn
- Last minute ~complication~ and ~miscommunication~
- Etc etc etc
BUT! And this is a big but! It just kinda… worked? Because in addition to these tropes, you have awesome F/F side characters (which were presented as just super normal? and it’s so refreshing to see gay ppl happy and accepted with little drama, bc gay joy rep is just as important as gay trauma rep). And male best friends with strong friendship! Who say they love each other and hug and are generally amazing besties and it’s not presented as weird in any way! Both of these things were well-done subversion of popular depictions/stereotypes that made me personally really happy.
And the romance was just so cute. I’m obsessed with Gideon. He was so sweet and thoughtful and the exact opposite of the toxic masculinity a lot of romance male leads have (sorry, had to say it). I loved his sense of humor and his banter with Claudia.
Speaking of which, just in general, this book was really funny! I laughed out loud several times, which like never happens in books. This is in large part bc of an abundance of pop culture references that are not specific enough to get dated but clearly modern enough to be hilarious in context. (Also there was a f*ck, marry, kill with Vader, Voldemort, and the Joker. I cannot)
I just had a smile on my face the whole time. I feel as though a lot of modern contemporary (coho) is just so damn depressing, with the abuse and the trauma and the teenagers in impossible situations. And while I love a good cry-read, I also really really love something light-hearted and fun. Like maybe the world isn’t such a bad place and I too can fall in love one day. This book is an instant comfort read for that reason.
This may be one of the best ever contemporary YA romance (tied with [b:When It's Real|30731416|When It's Real|Erin Watt|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1478017369l/30731416._SY75_.jpg|51270010]). 4.5 Stars
P.S. My ONLY complaint was that I wanted more theatre-y goodness. But that’s probably just me being a deranged theater kid. Ignore me.
