dark
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The protagonist is the worst--and I mean *worst*--person imaginable. Calling him a rapist, a stalker, entitled, racist, etc. does not capture how horrible of a person Doughty is, and we the reader have to live inside his head for the entirely of the book. The only thing that made this book readable is that he's completely lacking in self awareness, a massive loser, and stupid

I think it's both well done (in terms of a book that's a character study on the scummiest person without an ounce of a redeeming quality) and also not something I'd recommend to a single one of my friends. Not even sure if I should have read it myself

Recommended by the Center for fiction in Brooklyn, likely for the New York City setting and being...one of a kind
