Loved the story and characters as much in 17 as I did in 1. More Kate!

As a dedicated reader of Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder series, I approached "Rage" with keen interest, having received an ARC via NetGalley. While it certainly maintains the series' characteristic elements, I found this particular installment not quite reaching the heights of some of its predecessors.
One aspect that felt a little prolonged was the investigative journey; it appeared to take Kate and Tomasetti a bit more time than usual to piece together the critical clues. A recurring thought throughout my reading was the frequency with which Kate placed herself in jeopardy by not awaiting backup, a trait that, while integral to her character, is beginning to test the boundaries of credibility.
Nevertheless, it's a common characteristic for any long-standing series to have its varied moments.
Despite these minor observations, the core appeal of the series remains firmly intact. If you've enjoyed the previous adventures of Chief of Police Kate Burkholder, I am confident that "Rage" will still provide a satisfying read and keep you immersed in her world.

This was a great story but I didn’t love the audiobook. The narrator’s incantation was strange, it sounded almost robotic sometimes and took my mind away from the story.
Super unique mystery, crazy twists, interesting story, and a pretty wow ending.

I had the opportunity to read Rage: A Novel by Linda Castillo, the latest installment in the Kate Burkholder series. This is the second book I’ve read in the series, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Castillo once again delivers a layered and compelling mystery that explores the complexities of life on the fringes of the Amish community.
One of the things I really appreciate about this series is how accessible each book is—you don’t need to have read the others to understand or enjoy the story. The author weaves in just enough background to keep new readers informed without slowing down the plot. The character of Kate continues to evolve in meaningful ways, and the plot was filled with unexpected twists that kept me turning pages.
Castillo’s attention to cultural detail and emotional nuance really elevate the story. This was a strong, engaging read and a great example of why I keep coming back to this series. I’m looking forward to picking up more of these books in the future.

Maaaannnnn, I gotta say - I mostly loved this book overall, but I had some *ISSUES* with a specific, very obvious plot point - I mean, obvious from the first chapter or two - that ended up not coming true. I literally predicted a specific thing to happen several times, and it did not. And I cannot tell if I'm mad at it or not! However, that aside - this is your pretty typical visit to Painters Mill, and had all of our favorite people. A very good mystery, one that gets very intense at the end - TW for xes trafficking and xes abuse (off page). All in all, a great visit back to PM and I hate having to wait a year for the next one! 3.75 stars, rounded up to 4.
