While I enjoyed the unique writing style, I did not enjoy the overall story as much as I would have liked to

I still can't pinpoint why I didn't like this book. I think I never cared about the protagonist, and it was just boring.

So very disappointed in this book. It promised to be creepy, or at the very least, a bit dark, but I found that overall, the book began on a note that it couldn't sustain, and the story simply dragged on to a predictable ending, smattered with pictures to distract you a bit along the way.

The inclusion of the pictures was an interesting idea, and at first it did lend an air of antiquity and mystery to the experience, but the showpieces simply could not pull up the slow and depreciatingly interesting plot for me. The story is based upon the surreal photographs upon which the author has built this plotline wherein a group of supernatural/gifted children are hidden away from the world in a boarding school by Ms. Peregrine. The reader follows the lead character, Jacob, as he attempts to search for this mysterious boarding school. For me, however, instead of the story becoming more interesting once Jacob finally succeeds, I found the plot bland, and the characters even more so. After 100 pages, I didn't have any vested interest in any of the characters.

This was one of those hype books that simply did not live up to the expectation I was made to believe for it.
