This is definitely one of those books that both deserves and requires multiple reads. On my first read, I was almost overwhelmed by the fever dream which is this novel, but I couldn't help but be impressed by the beautiful weaving of story lines, the powerful and cyclical imagery, and the frequently overt and implied allusions. I find myself wanting to read more First Nations folklore, so I can catch these allusions as effortlessly as I do the biblical ones on a second read.

Clever. Impressive. The most challenging of the three Thomas King's works I've read. I feel the reading experience would benefit from a class discussion and analysis, although CBC group read moderator, Jennifer was super helpful.
