This book was better than I was expecting but it was still super weird
I’m not sure I completely understand the ending but there were more redeeming qualities about this than I thought there would be!
It helped that the author used short chapters and humour to keep things moving.

I don't think Thomas King's writing style is for me. I found the book quite fractured and interrupted without ever really feeling like things came together properly in the end. I didn't feel a sense of closure at all and the amount of work didn't seem worth the message (at least what I picked up on). I was glad the last third of the book was a pretty quick read because I was ready to be finished. Having said that, the discussion on Canada Reads this year has convinced me to try another of his books - I can only hope his style has changed over the years!

I actually thought this was a really good book, but I only gave it a 3 star rating because I had a hard time understanding the book and the allegory and symbolism that King was trying to portray. Thankfully I read this book because of an on-line book discussion (CBC Books) and there was a wonderful moderator who broke the book down by sections. In these break downs I was astonished by how much I was not getting from the book, whether it was because I did not catch all the literary, historical, and cultural references embedded into the story or because I did not think deeply enough about what King was trying to say.

What a wonderfully written story with many important commentaries on Canadian history and our treatment of aboriginal people. It was a very fun and quick read because of the style that interweaves a number of stories together. Each story is interesting and compelling helping the reader to understand how the characters reached the current point in their lives.

Ireverently reverent, this fantastic novel weaves in and out of Time. Thank goodness Coyote is always there to set things right. Not!

I know I loved this book, but I'm afraid I don't at all remember why :( Time for a re-read!
