Taihaku is currently my favorite character! This series is getting really good! I'm looking forward to volume 6!

I love that Taihaku and Rangetsu are allies now. Their interactions in this volume are so cute!
I was right to be suspicious of Boku, to think he's involved with that crazy girl...
I'm worried about what will happen next. Especially with Kougai getting suspicious and Rangetsu not being able to hide her expressions well.

Things are getting complicated. Taihaku has admitted to knowing the secret. Tenyou is daydreaming about Rangetsu. Kougai wants Rangetsu. Ririn is jealous of Rangetsu. Rangetsu’s tail is too cute and has a mind of its own! We have now learned more about Sogetsu’s brutal murder. The art is amazing and the story is addictive. Love it.

I don't think I can wait patiently until the next volume comes out! If I thought the other volumes were stunning, volume 5 of The King's Beast blows them out of the water.
The Characters
Volume 5 brought a ton of character development. We are starting to see Rangetsu's internal struggles to avoid falling for Prince Tenyou and get her revenge for her murdered brother. On top of that still kept her disguise as a boy. She faces many challenges in this volume, and she continues to grow and learn.
We also see some character development with Taihaku, Prince Tenyou's attendant. He comes off as uncaring and continuously puts Rangetsu in her place. However, he also comes from a place of protection and understanding. Especially the knowledge of loving Prince Tenyou. He cares for Rangetsu in his way, and we see this quite a bit in volume 5.
The Art
I have nothing but praise for Rei Toma's artwork. Every page is art on its own. Her style is stunning and by far my favorite. She shows emotion, love, feelings through her characters rather than speech bubbles.
She focuses on her character's emotions and the small things. She has built a world through art, and it's just absolutely stunning.
The Plot
Just as Toma's art flows, she knows how to write a stunning plot. So many things happened in this volume that left me blown away. We are given insight into Sogetsu's murder, we are hinted into the betrayal of another prince, we are seeing the feelings changing between Tenyou and Rangetsu, we are seeing the potential identities of individuals.
So many beautiful things are happening! The plot is moving so wonderfully, leaving me wanting more. I have never been more excited and impatient for the next volume to come out in English. I can't wait to see what happens next.
