The story had some nice twists, but it was way too slow.

When I got into this book I didn't really how intense it was going to be. I came in for the murder mystery (always a sucker for a good mystery!) but throughout the book I found myself thinking about morals, about guilt, about how responsible we are for how our actions affect others. I wasn't expecting to end the book in tears. In addition, I couldn't put the book down! Full of twists and turns, the plot had me hooked until the very end.

Thoroughly good read! Kept me guessing all the way through and kept the surprises coming right up until the end - total page turner! Didn't want to stop finding out how the story would play out - well worth picking up!

It's... kind of another generic Linwood Barclay novel. But his novels are so good that even a generic one is an enjoyable one.

After the initial exciting set up, it does kind of falter for a bit, and takes a while to ramp up. There is a lot of speaking to people but not really going anywhere, finding very few leads or information, and it gets a little frustrating.

But after that, it never lets up really until the end. And by the end, what you have been given is a flawlessly interwoven story, full of hints subtly dropped, double crossings, and red herrings.

True, none of the characters are particularly likeable, and to some extent they are simply stock characters (although the police force do bring up an interesting question of moral ambiguity and moral greyness). But the characters and deeper meaning are not really the point here. It's an enthralling thriller that you can never guess until the very end.

The one downside? The irritating text exchanges between 'teenagers', that feels painfully like a middle aged man's rendition of what a teenager sounds like while texting. I mean...
'cops looking 4 u?'
'yeah'
'y'
'cant say now y i ran off sudden. couldnt explain'
...... really?

I think I got the rec for this from EW. It's one of the first in a while that I got through that source that I really liked!

My library classifies this as fiction, but I'd call it more of a mystery. It's not the mystery that I'm personally used to. It's certainly not cozy and it's not a procedural. It reminds me, in tone, more of Defending Jacob by William Landay. It definitely kept me guessing. I'm going to attempt to write this with no spoilers and so that you'll only understand if you've read it: when we met the older end person, the second time, that's who I thought it would be. But later when Cal goes to see another young person that age, I totally thought it was him since we didn't know about the relationship of the actual person. Yeah, that probably didn't make any sense even if you did read it. Anyway, I liked this one a lot and definitely recommend it.

I liked the mystery, but the ending fell really flat for me and left a bad feeling vis a vis the book as a whole.

I enjoyed this book. I love all Linwood Barclay books. But if I was to rank it against the others it wouldn’t be near the top (No Time For Goodbye will always be at the top!). I would still recommend this to anyone looking to read a good story, with ample investigation and plentiful twists and turns.

There wasn’t too much action going on throughout the book which I missed. But the last quarter of the book really made up for it.
I definitely spent the whole time reading it trying to figure out the answers to everything myself, knowing full well, that when it come to LB, I can never really work out how it all ties up until he tells me at the end.

I enjoyed this book as I always do with this author. I did, however, find that there were to many endings. I like a twist as much as anyone, but it kept twisting. Just when you think you figured it out or that the main character has, it throws something else in.... the first couple of times is fine but 4-5 times was a few too many. Still would recommend the book though.

I read A Tap On The Window awhile ago for something to read that was a thriller and after I saw this on The Globe and Mail Bestsellers I realized I havent reviewed this book yet.

The worst part about reading this book was that the story ends.It takes alot for me to get hooked and this was one that I did. So wonderfully written. Full of suspense and twists and turns at every turn. Definetely going to read more of his books and if they are anything likw this one He will be one of my top Thriller Authors.
