This was cute and just fine, although it wasn't my favorite. However, thanks to this book I discovered something that makes my 3 year old laugh hysterically. A drawing of a cat with underpants on its head. That's right. A cat. With underpants. On its head. OMG SO FUNNY TO A 3 YEAR OLD.
Humorous look as to what happens when human family is away, leaving a bulldog in charge of cats. Friendship between cats and dogs.
The best part of this somewhat predictable story is Santat's cartoony illustrations. Expressive and tightly composed, they keep us engaged as we watch to see if Dog can keep the cats in line while his owners are away.
What a great pairing here between Going's entertaining story and Santat's cartoonish, colorful illustrations. Love the message of friendship and the vocabulary Going uses.

Best picture book ever! So cute!! The five naughty cats kept Dog on his toes when their people were out, but they rallied behind him when he needed their help. If you have young readers, this is a fun book with big, bold illustrations that will be sure to please. Even if you don't have young readers at home, sneak this home from the library for a quick, delightful read. Loved it.

I read this book because I was in the car and bored and it was next to me
I love this book! I am a devout "dog person" and did not expect to be equally captivated by the feline characters in the story-- but I was! In this case the dog and cat characters together are what make the story engagingly and unbelievably cute, funny & sweet.
The illustrations by Dan Santat are spectacular! They fill the pages and take on a decidedly three-dimensional feel as you read. Young readers will find reading this book similar to experiencing Dreamworks-type animation--without the screen!

Delightfully fun, great personalities with the animals and has a good message about friendship.
Cute, funny picture book! A little long for storytime, maybe good for a slightly older crowd? Definitely a good sit-down-and-read-together book!
