I'm gonna be honest, this volume was disappointing.

The biggest problem is that the jokes weren't nearly as funny in this volume than in previous volumes. Out of the whole volume, I laughed at maybe two jokes. The others got a "meh" reaction.

There were some nice moments, like with Sawada learning not to think negatively about her relationship with the third year crew and finally talking to some of her peers. The parfait chapter and the second to last chapter were probably the funniest and I did think the artwork/art style was on par for the series.

Overall, this was a disappointing read and to me the weakest volume so far. I'm hoping this is just a dud and the rest of the series will continue at level it was prior, otherwise I'm gonna be pretty sad.

I HAD A DRAFT, but since it was deleted, I guess I’ll just use iffy vocab/grammar/language in general and I won’t structure things too much.

This series is, to some extent, still really cute, but there’s quite a few things I kind of dislike or miss very much.

Firstly, Miyamura has become much more... bland to me. He’s still my favourite character I suppose, but without his long hair, he looks so generic. He also lacks any real flaws and doesn’t face any real struggles, unlike in the first few volumes when he found it hard to cope with his distrust in other individuals as well as the judgment of other people.

Next, Hori’s character has been fucked up. I love the fact that she’s more masculine than Miyamura - believe me, the gender role sub-inversion is my favourite part of this series. However, she hits Miyamura so much and is so possessive that she seems abusive, her masochism thing is weird, unhealthy and frankly kind of creepy, and because Miyamura lacks any flaws/struggles, their moments together typically revolve around *her* struggles, which makes Miyamura seem so much better than her. Also, there’s this weird homophobic-ish thing where she makes Miyamura promise not to fall for a boy ever?

No shade, but the way Hori’s character has evolved makes me wonder what the author herself is going through. There’s a lot of Hori traits that could be better handled - Hori doesn’t need to hit Miyamura so hard that it physically hurts him, or she could do it accidentally due to her physical strength, for instance. However, altogether, I find myself wishing that the author had kept the Essence of the character intact instead of adding so many rather unlikeable aspects to her personality.

Other things are great - the student council trio is cool ( if we pretend that Sakura didn’t have a complete personality change after confessing ) and I like the Hori family in general, as well as their attachment to Miyamura. A part of me feels as if the reason why the author feels the need to add so much to Hori’s personality is because the manga has gone on for too long and she’s tired of/simply cannot writing new plots for the exact same characters. Honestly, Horimiya would have been better off if the author had ended it a few volumes ago,
