Did I devour this book first thing this morning from start to finish, maybe. Now I know what you're thinking, oh lovely and athlete who wrote a book. But really this is more than that, this is an athlete who has been through some serious trauma, and can actually write. Her voice shines through from start to finish, and she doesn't just tell you what you have to do to pull yourself up by your bootstraps. Instead she tells you what you do have to do not just within reason, but within what it means to be human. She advocates for women and girls and athletics, in ways that we've been in dire need of for many many years now, millennia even. She also advocates for girls growing up in a single parent household, and for being such a well-rounded human being despite what life has thrown at her. This felt like a very genuine memoir, and that's hard to find when we get into athletes and celebrity books. But it's here, and you should join me in enjoying this book.
Bravey, by Alexi Pappas is an amazingly beautiful book about trauma, growth, depression, dreams, and achievements. Alexi begins with the stories of the 3 memories she has of her mother and how those and her mother’s death shaped her life. She explores how her father taught her to be self-sufficient and set her on the path to being a driven athlete and writer. The chapter in depression was especially relatable and insightful. This is one of the best books that I have read in a while!

Highly recommend listening to the audiobook version with Pappas narrating. It was extra special to hear her tell her own story and was great to listen to over a week of runs.
SO GOOD!! Alexi is an authentic inspiration in the running world and beyond. Her writing was so beautiful while writing about both her huge successes and greatest struggles and trauma. So thankful for her brave words.
My favorite book of the year. I'm calling it already.
Lately these are my favorite kind of books -- a sort of memoir-style book with some life lessons. Not an exhaustive telling of someone's story, but glimpses into their life and mindset. It's particularly meanginful to me that she spent time in Eugene, OR, the Eastern Sierras, and the bay area. 3 significant places in my own life .
