This was darker than the previous (and first) short story in this series. That one read like a monster movie feature (and I enjoyed it immensely); this one was more like a bloody Twilight Zone tale. Can't say I liked any of the characters, but I understood who they were and what motivated them, which helped buoy a fairly straight forward supernatural Search and Rescue. I think I would have liked there to have been more clear connections between the first and second but as a stand alone, entirely readable if horror-sword-fantasy is how you roll.
