I love Kingsolver's writing here; somehow she's able to write as an adolescent boy perfectly. The subject matter and things that Demon goes through are very tense and sad, but his humor and the moments of light that come help you push through. I really liked the book. For the first few chapters I had to get used to the writing style, and there were moments in the book that my eyes kinda glazed over slightly bored and not knowing what was happening, but those are made up by the truly emotional and heartfelt moments (both happy and sad) that you read as you go through Demon's life. I felt I got a good portrait at Appalachian poverty and the failures of foster care in an excellent narrative.

I really enjoyed listening to this story.
I wish I had physically read this instead of audio just so I could have annotated my favourite lines. Such a well written book with a very important message.
