After finishing this, I walked around my house, slapping volume 3 against my thigh, and ranting, "I'm annoyed. I'm annoyed. I'M ANNOYED."

The animals are very confused.

I'm ANNOYED.

I don't like her.

It's not that I dislike her, or anything. I feel nothing about her. Thank all the cods in the sea that I read Batgirl first. Because if I had started delving into comics by reading Batwoman? I'd stop here, and not be willing to give any other DCU comics a chance. Because I am bored to tears.

I liked the glimpses of Batwoman we got in the Batgirl 'verse. Is it different writing? The illustrations? I think it's a combination of both. I can't stand the layout here. It's not logical, FFS. And not even illogical like Manga where you read it backwards. Your eyeball has to jump all over both pages to try to figure out what order to read in.

Then the entire thing is jumping around in time, so it really just is confusing as fuck.

I am ANNOYED.

YET I AM CARRYING ON BECAUSE GODDAMIT.

ALSO BLOODY MARY IS REALLY FUCKING SCARY.

Artwork was amazing but story was hard to follow...it jumped around too much that I couldn't keep up.

Better than the first volume. A little more tightly focused on Kate and her stories. We lose the beautiful art, but it’s a little more comprehensible to me in exchange.

Got this book as part of Goodreads' First Reads giveaway.

Batwoman continues to try and infiltrate Medusa and rescue the kidnapped kids while navigating her love life and new DEO employers at the same time. For the most part I liked the characters. None of them have a ton of depth, but it is only the second trade in the series. The villains are kind of flimsy. So much is kept from the reader in regards to their motives, identity, and such that they never felt fully developed. My main gripe is with the art and layout, especially action scenes. I don't mind it when artists get creative with how they layout scenes, but here it felt more sloppy than designed. As if they did it just to change it up a bit, but with no actual intent/meaning behind it. Made some action hard to follow and not impactful; more distracting than anything. Overall, I wasn't blown away by the book and story, but I did enjoy it. Will probably read the next trade when it comes out.

It was okay but I had a little bit of trouble following the storyline. But I do like the fact that Batwoman is a lesbian. Let's just say that Batwoman is now at all like any of the other members of the "batman club"

If you want to know why I love this series so much you're best off reading what I wrote about Elegy and Hydrology. This volume is probably the weakest in the series but that's only because the others are all excellent. One of the main reasons I enjoyed it less was the more conventional superhero artwork. It's fine, there's the odd iffy pose here and there, but compared to how fluid and fascinating the art is when JH Williams is drawing it, it's quite disappointing. This part of the story felt a bit more conventional too with the main thread being find and fight the baddies, and whilst the narrative does jump around a lot, it feels like a slightly messy trick to jazz it up a bit. That said, the elements I love are still in there. The main strength is the writing of relationships and the interactions between key characters. The dynamic between Kate and Maggie feels very real and I found Jacob's interactions with Bette tender and powerful. It's only because the other volumes set the bar so high that this stands out slightly, but it's far from a low point, and still provides some great moments. I still devoured it in one sitting, and I still couldn't wait to read more.

The art is spectacular. My biggest issue with this is the choppiness of the story line. It jumps in and out of the main story and into side stories far too quickly and too often.

4.5 stars.

This is really good. I was shocked by what happened at the end but also really glad. And I like where the story went.

But it was a little confusing to follow at times with it jumping from one time to another than back again. I understand why it was like that though.

Looking forward to reading vol 3 soon.
