This book tried to pack in a lot—too much, in my opinion. And I say this as someone who enjoys sprawling high fantasy worlds.

With so many characters, many of whom felt quite similar and lacked depth, it was difficult to keep track of who was who. The same goes for the multiple storylines and deaths, which often felt overly staged rather than naturally unfolding mysteries.

There was too much death for me to call this a lighthearted, fun read—but at the same time, not enough depth to make it truly intriguing or thought-provoking. I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the main mystery or feel invested in solving it. I considered DNF-ing a couple of times but decided to push through and give it another chance.

That said, I can see why others enjoy it. It’s written with love, and despite my frustrations, there were moments that made me giggle—and even a few that brought me to tears. It just wasn’t the book for me.

Really enjoyed it! I had DNFed it a few years ago I think just because I was not in the mood, but I have to admit you have to get used to the narrative style ! Once you're in, you're in ! Very fun, lovely characters and interesting themes !

Spoilers ahead
However I was a bit disappointed by the resolution, esp. of Tony's murder
