This was an enjoyable story. Every time I thought I had the killer figured out, something quickly happened to prove me wrong. It was engaging and I’ll likely read more books in this series.

Funny, engaging, and mysterious, but very dark towards the end. A serviceable, but not great mystery. The main 4 will keep you coming back.

It took me a very long time to get into this book; I actually DNF’d it but then picked it back up again upon a friend’s encouragement. It does get better and easier to follow eventually, but the number of characters and the way their stories are written was really confusing for me. Perhaps an even bigger gripe I have with this book are the many stones left unturned and loose threads unaddressed by the ending — especially considering how many red herrings and random plot twists are already included. I needed more backstory on some of these characters, and more closure or explanation on some of the plot lines. Also, heads up: there are several fat-phobic comments in the book regarding one of the characters which I found completely unnecessary and offensive. All that said, it’s a cool idea for a story, and I’m sure I’d enjoy a movie adaptation!

Fun read! The storyline was engaging, with enough twists to remain surprising until the very end. Enjoyed that the writing style included parts that ‘broke the fourth wall’ or whatever it would be called when the language is  aimed directly to the reader. Definitely would recommend for someone that wants a nice ‘who done it.’

🕵🏻The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman 🕵🏻

MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

Four clever septuagenarians and a rookie cop are thrown into a live murder case when a local developer is found dead in their quiet retirement village. As more bodies turn up, the Thursday Murder Club must use their wits to catch the killer—before it's too late.

This was super cute! I love books where the characters are all older folks and I felt we got to really know their personalities in this one. Despite being a murder mystery, it was sweet and comedic and lighthearted. I felt the mystery was kind of unsatisfying - pieces felt disjointed or complicated, and there wasn’t really any clues to guess what happened until we were told. The mystery kind of dragged but wasn’t slow paced, and there was lots on character building in the slower parts. I look forward to the next ones.

This is a very lovely murder mystery book. The characters are mainly very elderly and that is very much an aspect of their personality, not the entirety of who they are. They definitely have a Ms Marple vibe too. Frankly the perceptive writing made me think of how absolutely punk rock being elderly could be. The plot is complicated but not hard to follow. But, again, the delightfully vivid nuanced characters are the heart of this story.
