Provides an introduction to the history of Hispanic and Latinx communities in the U.S., starting with the conquest of the Caribbean and Latin America in the late 1400s. Focusing on the voices of individuals through poems will make this a more accessible book for some readers.
Moderate: Colonisation, Racism, and Slavery
Minor: Xenophobia and Genocide

Dreams from Many Rivers is an excellent middle-grade poetry collection that explores exploitation, racism, refugee status, forced changes in nationality, and other challenging topics from a Hispanic and US context. These poems brought emotion to historical figures and experiences, bringing their subjects to life. I missed out on the Illustrations because I listened to this book!
Graphic: Police brutality, Racism, and Xenophobia
Moderate: Slavery
Refugee struggles, discrimination, anti-migrant sentiment, anti-refugee sentiment, being deported
