The ending saved the book for me. I almost DNF'd it but I really enjoyed her previous books but this one I just couldn't get into.

Man, I had been struggling with books until this one.

I was reading a lot of dystopian, sad, or academic books and also experiencing some personal life changes – so nothing was hitting.

I tried a romance but it failed for the time. I tried another, but it wasn't the pace I was expecting. I tried a horror book and it was terrible. Should've known a thriller would save the day.

This is my second Liv Constantine book and I grabbed it while visiting the new bookstore in my hometown in March. This has been on my tbr for a while, so I was proud to finally purchase and immediately read it.

This one opens with four friends. Two senators and their wives. The wife of one senator is the cousin of the other senator. She is starting to spiral as she believes her husband Whit is having an affair with a colleague. Things get real heated in the opening part of this book to the point that she ends up shooting at Whit only for her cousin to interfere and is killed. She turned the gun on herself, leaving Whit a widower and Sloane a widow.

After a couple of years, Whit and Sloane end up marrying each other. Sloane has a surgery to fix her hip issues only for her lupus to flare. Conveniently, they had arranged to hire an at-home nurse, Athena, to help her with her health, as well as her foundation work.

Sloane is still in touch with her deceased husband's mother, Rosemary, who questions Whit's intentions. Rosemary also starts to cast doubt on Athena, but her side investigation is put to a halt when she's attacked in her home and sent to the hospital.

Sloane isn't making progress in her recovery and is starting to question who in her household she can trust.

This one definitely kept me guessing through the end. I wanted a little more with this one, I'm not sure in what ways, maybe less with Whit's colleague Madeline (I think that was her name) and more time with Sloane's daughter Rose. Maybe there were too many POVs to follow. There was just something that couldn't lead me to giving it a five.

This was amazing! A really good unputdownable, edge of your seat thriller. I didn't enjoy the first 30% mostly because of the dialogue, it felt bland but I'm glad I stuck with it, it was so worth it.

Loved it. Liv Constantine is so clever in their writing. The characters were perfectly developed, there was just the right amount of mystery and frustration for the characters, and the ending was so satisfying. A must read, especially for Constantine fans. Definitely a page turner I couldn’t put it down.

This is my first book of 2024 that I read in one day. I just got hooked on the storyline and decided to lean in. Honestly, there are some predictable parts and parts that are downright hard to believe, which maybe was why I found it to be a good page-turner. Don't let the title fool you, it's not a political thriller. It makes for a great beach read!
