The blurb described this as a 'body horror'. The idea of a theme park full of people melting into one another seemed ripe for a good, gory body horror.

This is not that book.

This is more of a surreal literary fiction, and we see the same events unfold through various points of view (including that of a cat). Everything feels distant, and I didn't feel a connection with any of the characters, most of whom seemed underdeveloped and uninteresting.

The most interesting sections were the ones that followed Hyeongyeong, a businesswoman with a dark secret, and the cat.

Had I gone into this with different expectations, I may have liked it more. But having it marketed as a horror that, to me, contained almost no horror elements... It felt like a letdown.

"What was I, after all, if all the memories that made me up were gone?"
This book started with a child who was a slave to her parents love and approval and becoming parentified to keep that picture perfect family, afterwards we met jua and her mother who were struggling to make ends meet and only wished for a comfortable life in seoul. We also meet Sajun who also saved up every penny and obsessed over his finances that made him do dangerous irreversible acts. Da-ae who overlooked all her boyfriend wrongdoing and neglect just to be with him, because she believed she had loved him. Jelly bean and Sabbath who worshipped that mythical entity and believed they are the chosen one. Not to forget about our lovely tuxedo cat, who only wanted someone to stay by her side and ends up always disappointed in us, humans.
At the end of the day we're all a slave to something on this planet and it's going to be the end of us if we keep obsessing over it

I loved reading this, it was both bizarre and amazing.

It’s about these people at an amusement park melting into jelly after they receive a free jelly sample from a stranger dressed in an employee uniform.

I liked that each chapter focuses on a different character and their version of events. I loved the world-building of New Seoul Park, and learning the story of the park’s mascot, Dreams Kitty. It was so well-written that the park felt like a real place.

It was a really quick read that had me absorbed the whole time 😆
