I have so many feelings! This book felt personal and incredibly written.
I can relate to Jade in so many ways. She’s an ambitious and hardworking woman, a good daughter, friend, girlfriend and career-woman, who thought she had everything the way she wanted. I couldn’t tell how many times I’ve annotated and drawn sad faces on each page.
I also appreciated reading about the cultural details Jade explains about Korean and Turkish traditions. I admire learning about other cultures. Being Asian and Filipino, I can also relate having parents like Jade.
The epilogue spoke so much to me and I might reread it occasionally to remind myself that “the painstaking years on the brutal mountainside would be worthwhile”.
I find this book very inspiring and thought-provoking. It tackles issues about abuse, gender equality, family, racism, relationships, self-love, and everything in between.
I think every one of us has experienced at least one of what Jade has gone through… and we can find comfort in ourselves knowing that we aren’t alone and that we can get help.
Kudos to the writer, Ela Lee! I'm now a fan.

To add… It really helped a lot that I watched too much Suits, How To Get Away With Murder and some Law and Order, to be able to understand the “Firm” setting and overall, corporate world in the story.

Oof. Immediately, I knew this was going to be a book that would make me want to throw it against the wall.
An absolute gut punch. This book is sharp, poignant and so very necessary. My stomach was in complete knots as Jade’s story unfolded. Lee writes with purpose and powerfully raw energy in this thought-provoking exploration of identity and the far-reaching effects of sexual assault.
This was certainly not an easy read. Yet, Lee beautifully weaves together complex themes as she captures the barrage of emotions and intrusive thoughts of a woman grappling with the effects of trauma.
I recommend reading this one with care. Thank you so much @bakers.bookends for being an emotional sounding board and buddy as we read this together. 🫶🏻🥹
And thank you @simonbooks #SimonBooksBuddy for the #gifted copy!
