This was such a fun YA read! A South Asian American teen tries to juggle responsibilities for her sister's wedding while also taking part in a last chance music competition. Unbeknownst to her one of the overseas wedding guests is also trying to win and together they team up both for the competition and a wedding duet. Lots of fun antics and Desi culture. Great on audio with a lot of romance and relatable parental pressure to follow the 'smart' career path even if it's not your dream.

She is one of my favorite authors, but this book just was not one of my favorites. I think it's because I had a hard time relating to the age of the characters. I do appreciate that she took the time to explain what the wedding events were.

Personally, I just think I prefer her adult novels over her young adult ones.

This is so cute! I was expecting it to be overly cheesy but it wasn't! It was a nice surprise.

i think this is my favorite south asian romcom. sure still had some cringe parts but it was SO wholesome!!! the big family- the dad reminded me so much of my own. the plot around a bug fat Indian wedding put me in my feels. and the chemistry of the romance was so adorable and filmy!!

god i miss going to family weddings this book reminded me that no one does it like us

I won't rate because I don't think it is a bad book, it is just not for me.

The writing style is very young and while I am 26, I just did not connect to Zuri and her being in high school was not a story I wanted to follow. The writing style did not feel authentic and felt a bit forced, like the author was trying to write young instead of just writing young.

I will confess: I bought the book because the story was intriguing but the cover art was so pretty!

My #1 issue with this book is I will never be able to see the main characters perform. Their talent was so well written, it was fun to imagine. The story felt a little cliche at times, but then I would remember it was being written through a whole new perspective and culture. Which I absolutely loved. If you like teen romcoms you’ll love this.

I wouldve given this book 3.5 stars if it wasn’t for that ending

Super cute romance. Appropriate for middle grades and up. I learned so much about Indian and Jamaican wedding traditions.

Everything about this book spoke to my soul as a South Asian-American, from Zuri wanting to follow her dreams instead of following her predetermined path set by her parents, to the family relationships and lavish wedding events.
I loved the romance aspect as well, Naveen Patel definitely could be the love interest in a '90s Bollywood movie played by Shah Rukh Khan.
