An interesting look at Billie Holiday's life.

The ending has annoyed me. The whole book Billie gets fucked over by men, stands out on her own with true independence. Only for the last words to be ‘with my man’. Awful!!

They should have ended it on her prose about drug addiction, her dreams for the future and wanting to care for orphans - that was powerful! Showing her growth and ability to extend her wisdom to help out the working class.

I love the way she called everyone cats, a real slick cat, a real hip kitty.
I felt like I was there watching her on stage, surrounded by the energy of a 1940s jazz club.

If you’re a jazz fan, or not, I’m sure you’ll enjoy - just not the ending!

Billie Holiday had such a beautiful soul. This autobiography was a very cool read and makes me love and appreciate her music even more. If someone told me she was an actual angel, I’d believe them.

Absolutely loved to get to know her story in her own words. It's remarkable how strong these women were, particularly BH, and nevertheless how lightly they speak of their (struggled) lives.
