I loved this book!! It was another great vampire book with your mostly scary vamps but some that have a non beating heart.

Our street rat MC Allie is left with two choices after being attacked by the rabids and stumbled upon by a vampire who goes by the name Kanin; die a quick death where he guarantees she won't come back as a rabid or allow him to turn her and live the rest of her immortal life as a monster. I liked that the choice of becoming a vampire wasn't sugar coated like "oh you get to live forever, it's so awesome!" Kanin always called it the life of a monster, even from the get go. But I also loved that Allie's reasoning behind wanting to become a vampire was the pure selfish desire to stay alive. I mean really most of us would do whatever we could to not die. We do see Allie struggle with the new life she leads and what she learns from Kanin. About a third of the way into the book Allie sets off on her own and learns how to take care of herself. While out in the wilderness she stumbles upon a band of humans who are working their way to a "promised land" free of vampires and the rabids. There are surprises along the way and the suspense of if the humans will discover Allie's secret was high.

The world building was well done. The character development was extensive although I feel there may still be secrets we don't know about. There is a hint of romance between Allie and Zeke (the second in command of the human group) I don't know how they will make it work but I look forward to reading more about them in the next book. I also look forward to finding out more about Kanin, I think he has a lot of secrets to tell.

Overall it was a fast paced, action packed, exciting read. One that I highly recommend!

I would have liked more descriptions of the world and the way things run in the cities, but I still really enjoyed the book. Also, they should have used an Asian model for the cover since she is Asian. I liked how different it was in relation to other vampire books and I loved Allie.

I've read this series several times since it's original publication and it's still a solidly enjoyable read

Hi Gina,
Mom told me that you like scary book (I do,mom doesn't), well i really liked it: it's a about a young woman that gets "Turned" into a vampire. There's love, the "Hunger" problems, and trying to get to Eden, a city.
Love Alex.

Very enjoyable. An interesting new world of distopian US future, as Vampires rise to master the human race; holding humans as cattle in the cities. A few Unregistered, who refuse to allow their blood to be siphoned for their "masters" every month do exist on the Fringes, but are forced to scrimp and scrounge to survive. Our leading lady is one of these Unregistered.

When Allie stumbles upon a large stash of canned goods in a long-abandoned shed near the ruins outside the city, she convinces her small, motley band of fellow scavengers to return for the goods; certain this bounty will keep them fed through the winter. She should have known it could only go downhill from there...

Vampires, a strong start at distopian world-building, very good character building, Rabid Vamps, rogue Master vamps, a search for a cure to Rabid-Vampirism and a Main Character to really root for left me eager to keep turning the pages. I look forward to the next!!

This one was surprisingly good! I had this one on my shelf for maybe 3 to 4 years and I was scared it would be too childish since YA translated to Dutch always feels so young to me, but it didn't bother me as much as i thought. I also expected it to be a little thropy (because vampires), but that wasn't the case at all. Julie Kagawa's writing style is so addictive and makes me fly trough her books. The next ones don't really fit my NEWT prompts, but I will definitely pick up the next one in september!

I love this series so far!

Vedremo..
