I went off vampire books a short while back as my interest started to drift more towards the Fantasy genre. Last night however, I couldn't sleep and so picked this up randomly off my shelf as I had been told it had apocalyptic elements too it. I wasn't really expecting much - it was a book I'd picked up for a pound on a whim. My hopes weren't exactly sailing. All I have to say is that I was so very wrong to underestimate this book. So wrong.
Allison is possibly one of the strongest characters I have come across in a long time. She is a completely realistic character who has her flaws and this is what makes her truly strong. It's also so great to have a POC main character! (Although there were a few stereotypes littered in there.)
I did love the storyline. The vampire cities, Eden, Kanin... It was all fantastic. The plot twists were predictable at times but that didn't bother me because I just needed to constantly know more.
The only problem I really have is that I'm not interested in reading the next book. It seems to me like it could stand alone. Obviously there are lose ends to tie up, but I'm not really interested in finding them out. I probably will continue this one day, but for now I think I'll wait it out.

I LOVE this book. I don't even know what to say...I love this book and I love Allison (I mean I wish she was real so we could hang out...I'm more of an early bird, but I could become a night owl to hang with Allison!)
I have been a huge fan of vampires and vampire books/shows/movies for as long as I can remember. I was a little worried this book would be just another vampire book, but I am so pleased to say it is different and unique and wonderful.
I am so happy I found this book and this author (who apparently has other series, YAY!) and I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Having read Ms. Kagawa's entire IRON FEY series, I pretty much already knew I was going to love this book. Plus, there were all the other review that I got a peak at, and I can honestly say, I was thrilled when I got my copy on NetGalley!
This book had EVERYTHING that I love most about young adult/paranormal stories. There are terrifying, evil vampires; not-so-evil vampires that are trying to come to terms with their vampirism, a sweet, against-all-odds romance, and what I REALLY love; a bad-ass, tough girl, who can put even the biggest of the men in their place.
Allison, even as a human, was a fighter and also very kind. In a world where it was kill-or-be-killed, she still managed to be rise above all of that and help others when they were in need. And in New Covington, where people are starving, this is a rarity.
After Allison's transformation, she faces all different types of evil. One of these is herself. She has to fight the bloodlust when around humans, while simultaneously trying to save their lives. She sets off trying to become a stronger vampire, physically. But, I believe Allison grows in ways she never could have as a human, stuck in New Covington.
The romance in this book is slow-building and I don't feel like it's unbelievable. There's something different about Allison and Zeke, and both of them recognize this in each other.
If you've read anything by Julie Kagawa before, then you know what an amazing writer and storyteller she is. If you haven't, well, I'm telling you--Julie Kagawa is an AMAZING writer and storyteller. Pick up this book. Pick up ALL her books!

It just got better as it went along, enough said. I'm sorry that I didn't check out ms. kagawa sooner, but I confess I was repelled by her fey books
Many people are already fans of Kagawa’s Iron Fey series, I’ll admit I haven’t read it all yet, but what I have read I loved. When I saw that she was going to come out with a book featuring vampires, I jumped at the chance to read it. What Julie does for the fae, she does for the vampire. She has made a fresh story featuring a society that has crumbled and is now overrun by vampires. Having different versions of the vampires is wonderful too – they aren’t all beauty and glam, actually – we never really see that side. What we do see is a girl who becomes what she was born to hate and how she deals with it.
Allison Sekemoto isn’t like the other teens that are living in the vampire city, she refuses to give in. Even when she becomes a vampire, she still refuses to give in and become the monster she has despised. The story features action and some gruesome battles and left me wanting more. I can’t wait to see what will happen next as Allie continues on her journey to yet another fight.

This book was suspenseful, romantic, exhilarating, and everything at the same time! The Immortal Rules is definitely one of everyone's favorite books!
This was definitely a great book and I'm mad at myself for not reading it before! It felt a little long at times, but despite that, I finished the audiobook in just a couple days and I'm interested to see how the series plays out!
