3.0

Nina, desperate and on the run from her abusive husband, is forced to take refuge at the mysterious Orchard Hill farm with her baby son, Holden. But the farm, famed for its honeybees, is at the centre of a swirl of disturbing rumours. Can Nina uncover the truth about the farm's strange history before her little boy ends up in danger?

This is a fast-paced, suspenseful read that harks back to the greats of classic Gothic literature. Sara Crocoll Smith builds layers of tension and danger to deliver an emotional gut-punch in the book's climax that had me reeling. But this is billed as 'hopeful horror', and true to its word, the story cleaves to the idea that despite the darkness, life can ultimately change for the better. A powerful and thought-provoking read.
