Way more than most love stories I've read recently, even if the premise does arc around to essentially be "plain woman madly in love with rich man twenty years older than her". But that's also, like, a reading so bare it misses most of the point. For instance, plain woman is only able to reciprocate when rich man is no longer so. Infidelity happens. Plain woman essentially tames man in what is more like a really lengthy retelling of Beauty and the Beast if the Beast were just A Really Thicc Jerk and Belle left like, Twice, But Once To Claim her Fortune I guess (???) and almost falls in love with a pastor but he's kind of also a dick and is like yeah you wanna fuck off the continent and she's like hm. It would be very sexy and feminist of me not to keel to you and live out my raw pleasures in the woods. Jane has the whole world at the other end of her lead. She's crying for the first five chapters of the book and smirking for the last five. And I think that is very sexy of her. Do I like her love interest. No. Do I like most of the book? Not actually, no, it's very slow and kind of miserable when it's not really boring Gothic romance. Do I really like to explain that Jane Eyre is actually kinda batshit? Yeah. Because it is. And I love that.

Writing with perfect clarity is difficult even for the masters of the craft. Reader, let me tell you that Charlotte Bronte is one of the masters of writing. She is not only a gifted storyteller but she can write a sentence that had me marveling.
Jane Eyre em uma palavra: Drama. Este livro, cheio de reviravoltas, é um novelão para ninguém botar defeito. A história nos leva a acompanhar a jornada de Jane, uma órfã destemida e determinada, que enfrenta a opressão de sua tia ranzinza e sai de casa para conquistar sua independência e viver uma profunda história de amor. Mas nada será tão simples na vida de Jane, que terá que superar obstáculos e encarar segredos terríveis para cumprir seu destino. Charlotte Brontë foi minha segunda Brontë, depois de Anne, e achei essa experiência muito mais interessante que em A Inquilina de Wildfell Hall. Ao contrário de Helen, que é movida por um forte senso de dever cristão e moralista (o que não me agradou), Jane se guia por seu senso de justiça e independência, tornando-se, na minha visão, uma protagonista muito mais envolvente como ícone feminista. No geral, Jane Eyre foi uma leitura divertida e marcante, que me deixou ainda mais empolgado para mergulhar na obra da Brontë que ainda não conheço: O Morro dos Ventos Uivantes, da Emily.
