the Sean Duffy series is absolutely brilliant.  smart, engaging, gritty and suspenseful.  great characters, especially Inspector Sean Duffy.  this is my third novel (and the latest) in the six novel series.  03/17 — 5 stars

i just spent a whole lot of time with Sean Duffy.  this was my fourth novel in a row.  i've now completed the series.  it was worth every minute of it.  and this, the sixth and final volume in the series, is a fitting end.  i'm thankful to Adrian McKinty for giving me so much entertainment. 08/22 — 5 stars

Great part of a great series

Northern Ireland during the Troubles was not a pretty place. If you're Catholic policeman Sean Duffy, you see the worst of it, and you do so with a price on your head. He threads his way among his Protestant neighbors and his old friends and family, many now IRA operatives, and does his best to solve the murders that come his way as head of the Carrick CID. He is relentless, dogged, and actually very good at his job.
McKinty, though he left Northern Ireland for the US and then Australia, paints a clear picture of the territory, the characters, and the violence and despair. The writing is good, the pacing quick, and it is hard not to like Sean Duffy.
I recommend you begin the series at the beginning, with [b:The Cold Cold Ground|13008754|The Cold Cold Ground (Detective Sean Duffy, #1)|Adrian McKinty|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1355027843s/13008754.jpg|18170309]

Another excellent read from Mr McKinty, looking at the pressures of policing in Belfast during the troubles.
Thoroughly enjoyable escapism.

This book combined all of the endearing elements of the authors writing without being overdone as is the case in some of the previous stories.
