This book is the second in the Kyoshi series and was a great addition to the first because it continued the story of Kyoshi’s avatar journey.

The first is always better, but this one was good too. Honestly, I have no idea what happened in the first half of the book, it lost my attention.
Once Yun came into play more, it picked up.

Yun's motivations weren't straightforward for me, but maybe I can't accept he's just evil now? I wanted more from him, almost in an anti-hero way, but he was just a villain (I guess that's what Kyoshi had to come to terms with too LOL).

It definitely feels like there should be another book after this one. I'm not sure if that will be true, but in the meantime I'll move on to Yangchen.

I enjoyed this book even more than the first. Really loved the exploration into the fire nation and getting an understanding of it's previous problems and how it came to be more nationalistic and fascist over time. I enjoyed the peak we got into that world and also the lore we got surrounding Kurok and Yangchen and the Avatar line and process in general. It's really cool to see how the Avatars can also have flaws, and how Kurok's companions got it so bad too. Seeing more from Hei-Ran and how honor works outside of Zuko was great. Absolutely love Rangi and Kyoshi and their relationship. Yun was a really scary conflict and I liked the extra layer of trying to figure out what was him and what was an evil spirit. I wish we'd gotten to see more from the Flying Opera Company companions but understand why we didn't in this book, and the ending was absolutely FIRE, wink wink.
