slow start but remained solid
In this book we see that all avatars have their flaws, Kyoshi's flaw is that she really sucks at diplomacy and can be easily used as a political pawn. Our protagonist jump to wide conclusions frequently and can be a bit naive- however at this point she is still about 17 years old. I did enjoy seeing the detail given to Kuruk, because many people just assumed he went off chasing a girl and was never seen again and that's pretty much the surface level of things..... I'm not going to give anything blatant away, but the story is more selfless than that and later comes to mention what the flaw of YangChen (the air bender avatar who was held up as a ideal for both Kuruk and Kyoshi and in some ways the world as whole) was.
It is a little difficult to keep track of all the details from the last book (read it at the beginning of the year) I do recommend that you give yourself a basic synopses of "Rise of Kyoshi" with some character names and descriptions thrown in.... it's not that they're bad, I'm just really terrible with names and when you're dealing with names you're not familiar with- yeah. Also, I gave myself a synopsis of this book just to keep track for next time as I do plan on continuing. Oh yeah, the doppleganger thing was getting a bit much.

I’ve always been a Kyoshi fan but after these two books I am OBSESSED.
I’ve loved being able to read about the past Avatars (along with their friends, foes, and advisors) and how they’ve grown and developed through their VERY different lives and time periods.
I know F. C. Yee is hanging up his hat with this universe and the Avatar chronicles now that The Legacy of Yangchen is out so I’ll definitely be checking out some of his other writing.

For me, not as good as tRoK, but still such a good read. I was a little disappointed with how the conflict / villain played out in this book, but it's not something I'm going to stew about all week.
Now... where's that 3rd and 4th book announcement????

While kyoshis relationship with the main antagonist is similarly compelling as the first book, I find that it's not quite there, as it takes a bit too long to establish what their motivations are. While the political scheming in this book is interesting in its own right, I preferred the ragtag piratic adventure of the first novel. Still strong with great moments.
