The Shadow of Kyoshi

F.C. Yee

4.27 AVERAGE

Kyoshi herself and her lover/bodyguard Rangi are the highlights of the story. In The Rise of Kyoshi, I felt that the overall cast was more enjoyable, however. The plot felt a bit torn between wanting to expand the lore of the universe and wanting to tell a personal story, and I felt more scattered because of this. However, I loved the twist after Kyoshi realized she made a major mistake from being too confident, and it showed the arrogance and trickery that plagued generations of Fire Lords. I loved seeing more of the Fire Nation than just one palace. The action was exciting! Overall, enjoyed but maybe my least favorite Chronicle of the Avatar.

I love these novels. They expand greatly on my favorite avatar and it feels like the author created a world within a world for old Avatar fans.
