finished this in a total of 4 hours solely because I didn't want to take it into another day. probably would've eaten this up if I read it when it came out, but it was just super redundant and another one of those found family books that didn't hit for me. the writing was decent though, and character growth was definitely there. i was just expecting a lot more magic than i got i think

it was a wild rollercoaster. most of it was good but it was really disjointed and there were a lot of thrown in pieces.

This book is really well written and a very easy read. It's about a girl who believes she has a gift of taking things (stealing) without anyone noticing. She has a history of running away from group homes. She pickpockets just so she has enough money for food and rent. She always returns to the hotel her mom last left her in. Her mom is a drug addict and does anything to make money but one day her mom didn’t return to the hotel. So they find her and send her to live with her aunt that she knew nothing about, she didn't even know she existed. This was my first read from this author and I really enjoyed it.

This book was so good!! I was so immersed in the story and all of the characters I felt a pang of loss when it ended. This had me hooked on it and I never saw any of the plot twists coming. It was a beautiful story of love, family, and new beginnings. Completely melted my heart.

I loved the strong McCabe clan of women! Each one, with a different personality, but heart like no other. Asebedo again, as she did in The Deepest Roots, weaves a magical story of family and friends mixed with just a sprinkle of magic. Well done!

This was a really sweet book. I loved the main character (Trix) & not only loved watching her relationship change with her newfound family, but how she changed as well.

I truly enjoyed this book. The character is a young woman (Trix) who has lived a mean life on the streets with her drug addict mother and has been abandoned to foster care at times. Trix is an incredibly skilled pickpocket and she manages to keep herself afloat by picking pockets when her Mother leaves her.

When she gets caught, she is given a choice ... go live in a rural town with the family of her father (who she never met) and finish high school or go to jail. She opts to leave the city and is placed with her Aunt Mia, cousin Ember and Great Auntie.

My favorite line is when Auntie tells Trix that if she doesn't put down roots here she will forfeit her future. It becomes a bit of a north star for Trix as she struggles to figure out what she really wants and what home means.

The neat thing about this story is that there is an element of magic woven through but it is just a thread that adds an interesting dynamic - it doesn't take center stage. The characters grapple with family relationships, suicide, mental health, first love and loss of a parent or sibling along with finding a home.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Miranda Asebedo and her agent for contacting me to review A Constellation of Roses!

I love magic realism, especially magic realism that is barely barely magic. Like if you blink you might miss it, and this book was exactly that! I absolutely loved the subtle magic in this book. It was so beautiful.

What I loved even more than the magic, was how very real Trix is. She’s had a hard life, that’s turned her into a hard person. Underneath all the hardness is just a girl who needs a home.

Trix’s loneliness was so palpable at times, it was heartbreaking. She wanted a home and family, but she has extreme trust issues because of the life she’s had to live. It was so wonderful seeing her go from someone who relies on no one, to someone who relies on her newfound family.

I LOVED Auntie, Mia, and Ember. Auntie especially. I am always there for the sassy ‘grandma’ characters, especially those who talk like Auntie. Mia was amazing. She is such a warm maternal character. I really loved how Trix and Ember’s relationship grew. You could see over the course of the book how they went from strangers to almost sisters. It was wonderful.

The romance in this was extremely sweet and not overbearing. I loved that Jasper was a fully formed three-dimensional character. If you had taken away his relationship with Trix, he still would have been an interesting character. I love this because I feel like often times, especially in YA, the love interest isn’t fully formed.

Trix’s relationship with her mom broke my heart. It was so very realistic though. Sadly, it’s not all that unusual. I wish there was a way for all the kids in Trix’s situation to discover they had a loving family like the McCabes.

This was an incredibly fast read for me. I received the ARC in the mail and finished it within a few hours. It pulled me in immediately and kept my interest the whole way through. I absolutely loved it and can honestly say that I didn’t dislike anything about it! This very very rarely happens for me, so I highly recommend A Constellation of Roses!
