As relevant and timely as it is exciting and outrageous! A thriller that is more about characterisation than thrills per se but very, very enjoyable. The depiction of billionnaire Lemoine is chilling and the left-wing arguments at Birnam Wood are depressingly familiar.

A profoundly stupid and wrong-headed book. I would have given up several times if I hadn't been reading it for book group. I loved The Luminaries and admired The Rehearsal. I even admire some of the Austenesque psychology and prose in this. But yeah, the most awful book I've had to read in decades.

Extremely well written, good pacing, and interesting subject/plot. The uneven tone kind of threw me, though.

The plot and the eco justice theme were both pretty cool but I really didn't connect with the characters or the situation too strongly. Maybe I need to think more about the writing style choices and how it relates to the theme to appreciate it more.
