While I was enjoying this mystery minus a murder plot, I wasn't sad to be wrong when a murder plot became involved.
Sometimes a YA story just hits right XD
Riddles and riches abound in this series.

This book dragged for me. The family tree is toooo much. Everybody is somebodies auntie cousin half brother sister. I wish the book focused more on the riddles and games than the familial relations. also Avery was fine making out with the Hawthorne brothers knowing they might be first cousins..?????
The book had SO much build up around finding the "dead" Hawthorne son Toby only for him to actually show up , be in the story for all of two pages and just run away again. I feel like Avery should've had a bigger reaction to seeing Harry aka Toby again but it was so lackluster

Feels like Some of the plot leads to literally nowhere, but more investing than the first one, also a better climax
I enjoyed this second book it was a bit slower than the first and I felt like most of the action happened within the last 150 pages of the book. It felt like there was a lot of filler that wasn’t really needed. That being said in the end I enjoyed this book and just wanted to continue speeding through chapter after chapter to find out what the next piece to the puzzle was. I’m excited to read the final book!

After loving The Inheritance Games, I had high hopes for The Hawthorne Legacy - and Jennifer Lynn Barnes delivered again. Twist, fast-paced, and puzzle-filled, this sequel raisies the stakes while pulling Avery deeper into the Hawthorne family's web of secrets.
What I Loved: the riddles and reveals kept me hooked. I also loved how Avery grows into her role - she's no longer just swept up in the inheritance, she's learning to own it. And of course, the drama and family intrigue? Peak eldest daughter energy.
What I Didn't Love: the love triangle moments sometimes pulled me out of the mystery. A few side characters felt underused, too, but that didn't stop me from devouring this book. Overall, this was exactly what I wanted from the sequel: higher stakes, sharper twists, and plenty of asp-worthy reveals.
If you enjoyed The Inheritance Games, you'll definitely want to keep playing. Would recommend if you:
⭐ Loved the first book and want more puzzles and secrets
⭐ Like YA mysteries with a splash of romance
⭐ Enjoy family drama mixed with high-stakes mystery
