I liked the book, again a quick and easy read. I liked the Jameson/ Grayson tension more in this book than the last one, however, the mystery was less interesting to me. Still some plot twists got me like Toby being adopted and him being Rebeccas and Emilys sibling?! But I thought that Toby can't be Averys father for quite a while before it was revealed.

“‘You Hawthornes,’ I whispered hoarsely, ‘and your invisible ink.’”
Xander firmly remains best Hawthorne.

The second book in The Inheritance Games series picks up where the first book ends. The Hawthornes and Avery Grambs are continuing their search for answers. A new game is afoot and new questions to keep them busy. Why did Tobias Hawthorne leave his fortune to Avery? Other than a chance meeting years ago she is nothing to him.
This time the answers they find will shock them. But will they be further divided or will they be drawn closer together? And the danger to Avery has increased with more attempts made on her life. But is the greatest threat closer than she thinks?
The past still has a hold on the Hawthorne household with the death of Emily still haunting them. And when Avery's old acquaintance Harry seems to have a bearing on their current search even more questions are raised.
For the most part, I really liked the book. I can't say I'm a big fan of Avery's BFF Max. But the action and revelation of long-buried secrets keep the story engaging and attention-grabbing. The climactic build is well worth it so don't skip ahead to the end.
I already know that there will be a third book but this one ends in such a way as to be complete so I'm interested to see exactly where this series goes next.
The narration was good but I did the playback at 1.2 as that matches my reading speed when reading a book. I liked the different pitches, tones, and accents that made each of the characters identifiable.
I borrowed this book from my local library.
