A complex tale with a simple moral written in even simpler language fit for an 8-year-old. This is one of those rare cases where even the substandard film adaptation is a preferable way to experience the story.
Donna Tartt is such an odd read for me; I can't honestly say that I've cared about the plot of either of her books or any of the characters she's written (except maybe Hobie) and yet I have no problem finishing her intimidating long, prose-filled books. Any other time I've come across that combination it's an immediate DNF, and yet...

Too long and meandering for what I found to be an anti-climatic ending. But "it's about the climb" says Miley! Fine, I understand the hype but in the end I wouldn't recommend.
