Such a moving story, and it felt really evocative of the era (although I wasn't actually born when the book was set). It felt authentic, and I really liked the first person perspective. I'm sad now, desperately in need of a comedy! x

I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a copy of this book for so long, and I’m really happy that I finally did!
I found the story to be quite intriguing. Enough so that I was able to finish this book in a day. But it wasn’t the writing or the characters that kept me reading; I found those to be good, but nothing exceptional.
Mainly, I think it’s the fact that Erastes chose to write about something so forbidden - twofold, if you take into consideration the time the story is set in - that kept my interest throughout.
Overall, would recommend to friends who are a fan of romance stories. Although it should be noted that this book is much more about forbidden love and sexual obsession/lust than it is about romance.

I wouldn't categorise this as romance. What Edward and Alec shared seemed more like obsession and carnal desire rather than love. Their interactions were predominantly driven by physical needs, lacking in genuine affection. The narrative voice of Edward came across as excessively self-absorbed, consumed by shame, fear, and self-pity, leaving little room for romantic feelings to develop.

The ending bumped this to four stars for me.

I enjoy a sad read every now and again but man, this was too much for me. There's already too much pain in the world as it is.

This book left me a little angry, sad and puzzled after reading it. I believe maybe, if i read it 2 or 3 years ago the results would have been different.

description

First of all, the writing is beautiful, i fell in love with it from the beginning. My problem was i didn't connect with our narrator from the get go and by the end of the book i really didn't know him. The same goes for the other characters too. At the end of it all, i did shed a tear, because damn! sad is sad. Books like this really make me appreciate the discussions we get to have after reading. Thank you my friends.

The story is taboo and i love the kind, what i felt between Ed and Alex was lust and obsession not love.

The writing got my attention, i will be checking out more.

Thanks so much my lovely Vir for this gift

I knew before I started reading this that it had a tragic ending, and I braced myself for it. As I started reading, I started to figure out just how it was going to end, and I was right. So, I was prepared for it, which was good, because I probably would have fell apart.

Still, even knowing how it would end, I feel like I'm going to start sobbing over it. My heart breaks for Edward and Alex.
