It may have been hugely influential in its time, and has lots of interesting ideas scattered throughout, so I acknowledge it's historical relevance for SF. But its weird depiction of cyberspace, anti-virus software as virtual ice a hacker has to melt or cut through and it's opaque language that doesn't serve any purpose than to confuse the reader and bog down the flow just didn't click with me. It is a recurring issue I have with Gibson's prose (I read one of his more recent novels). Gibson's prose doesn't instill wonder in me, just confusion. Sorry.

This type of scifi and cyperpunk really isn't for me, but regardless of that, those two weren't the reason why I gave it a one star. The book felt pretty predictable in several parts, and the oversexualization was too much. Of course the only female main character we have is just waiting to hump the main character, of course she was a sex worker, of course she had a tragic past, the whole character of Molly just felt so cliche and flat. Let me not start on Case, who has every addiction under the sun, addicted to matrix, alcohol, drugs, sex, etc. the list goes on.
