The Prison Doctor

Amanda Brown

3.82 AVERAGE

Having read a number of other memoirs by doctors I am pretty disappointed by this one. The stories come across as superficial, the doctor seems unrelatable as a person and her references to her life vs what it is like behind the scenes of the prisons read like bad b roll. Don’t recommend.

The premise of this book is interesting and exciting but in reality I found this very boring and not nearly in depth enough for me.

It may be a good one to start with if you aren't already acquainted with or interested in true crime, but personally I wanted to know more.

Intersting story about a not entirely conventional job. I like these sorts of books, reading about doctors' lives and the decisions they have to make, the people they meet.
This book wasn't great - maybe it was the "me me me" or the writing, I don't know - but still kept my interest and I'll probably read the next one within the year.

Not having read a book like this before I wasn't sure what to make of it, but I'm glad I picked it up. Brown speaks bluntly of her time in the various prisons she's worked in, and it makes her come across as very human instead of someone sprouting about their career. A real eye-opener into the people in prisons and how they end up there.

This was really interesting, especially the last 50 pages! I really learned a lot and would read the other books for sure. Only thing I missed was that I feel like it was sometimes a bit too focused on the life of doctor brown herself.
