Rating (Based on Personal Scale): 3/5 – A good book! Didn’t blow me away, but I liked it.
My Take: A Thriller with Heart
Thoughts & Feels: I was gifted this book, and although mysteries aren’t usually my go-to genre, The Counselors completely pulled me out of a reading slump—I couldn’t put it down! The story hooked me from the very first page, keeping me guessing while also delivering emotional depth that I wasn’t expecting. While it’s classified as a thriller, it weaves in elements of romance, friendship, and the weight of secrets in a way that makes it feel even more layered.
I got deeply invested in the characters, especially Goldie. No spoilers, but her journey broke my heart. For a teenager, she endured so much, and her resilience stuck with me long after I finished the book. The friendships in this story felt real—messy, complicated, and filled with unspoken truths. It was a great reminder that you may only know one version of a person, but there’s always more beneath the surface.
Even if mysteries aren’t typically your thing, this book is definitely worth picking up. If you want a story that keeps you on your toes, pulls you in emotionally, and leaves a lasting impression, The Counselors is one you don’t want to miss!

This one was okay. I might have liked it more if it hadn't been spoiled for me on TikTok.
With secrets about an accident she was involved in during the school year haunting her, Goldie can't wait to get back to Camp Alpine Lake and her camp friends for the summer and forget about it all. But when a teen from town is found dead in the lake, it becomes clear that Camp Alpine Lake might not be the safe place Goldie remembers.
I didn't hate this book, but like I said, a TikTok review of it kind of ruined the ending for me. I will say, though, the foreshadowing is pretty heavy-handed, so I probably would have guessed anyway, and the things that weren't spoiled, I guessed super early on. It wasn't the most exciting mystery/thriller I've read, but it was ok. I enjoyed the characters and the summer camp setting. Overall, it was kind of underwhelming, so I don't have that much to comment on.

Just a group of heavily drinking kids who are all incredibly flat. Yay we're supposed to be camp counsellors, let's get drunk and high! I only finished it because I was curious about the mystery but this thriller was anything but thrilling.
Graphic: Car accident, Fire/Fire injury, Alcohol
Moderate: Drug abuse
Minor: Sexual content
