The book is a nice YA thriller . I picked it because I’m on a summerWeen kick and wanted some books to finish up the summer about camps and spooky stuff . Less spooky more thriller .

ok this one pleasantly surprised me!! jessica goodman’s novels always are bingeable but ultimately predictable (and sometimes a snooze fest) - however, I’m so happy to be proven wrong!
surrounding camp alpine lake and three girls who have spent their summers there every year, the non-linear timeline of this plot worked so well! it was a great conversation piece about the ethics and classism of summer camps & their equality - which is so relevant today 🤪
ava, imogen & goldie were the camp trio - and it brought back super nostalgic vibes of youthful summers!! and while ava was an absolute idiot to trust boys in high school, it was another great subplot of the nativity of teenagers…
but it was truly the mystery sprinkled throughout the story that solidified the higher rating for me! it wasn’t super obvious & kept me invested until the very end!
while clearly a YA setting and involving characters with little to no brain cells, I really enjoyed this one!!
rating: 4 stars

I liked this more than They'll Never Catch Us, but not as much as They Wish They Were Us. It was so predictable that it hurt, BUT I loved the camp setting and Goldie was such a great character. I did see the killer coming a mile away, and I wanted a little more of a crazy big twist, so I might just be falling out of love with this genre.

Goldie is a counselor at a summer camp she has been attending/working at for years. She has deep friendships and bonds that even through long distance remains true. However, Goldie is hiding a pretty big and scary secret from them. When her ex shows up dead at the camp, Goldie decides she has to figure out what really happened as she suspects foul play.
The start of this book was a bit slow but important to discover the relationships between characters. The last parts of the book it really picked up though. While I did get an idea of what happened before the reveal I wasnt 100% on all the details. It was a fun thriller ride!
