I liked McIntyre's Star Trek novel Enterprise and decided to give this one a try. I've read a handful of Star Wars novels and enjoyed this one.
Things I liked:
*The Solo kids--it's fun seeing how they deal with danger
*Han Solo as a dad! Being a dad myself, I really enjoy Star Wars novels where he is a total dad with Han Solo dad feelings
*Leia as a mom and President of the Universe (or whatever the title is)--Leia is such an interesting character here: hero, politician, mom and bounty hunter
*Threepio - McIntyre has a solid grasp of Threepio's voice
*Suspense--I liked McIntyre's pacing (for the most part)
*Strong Villains - by the end of the story, I hated these villains. They were gross. This made me want to see what happened next
Things I didn't like:
*The end was good, but was about 20 pages too long

I went into this book expecting it to be awful, and I think that is why I maybe enjoyed it a little. It wasn't too bad. The ending was about as mangled as Ron in a vat of Devil's Snare, and the POV shifts were relentless, pointless, and heartless. Besides all that though... it was short? I don't know, that's the only redeeming factor. It was better than Children of the Jedi and Planet of Twilight... but not by much.

The beginning of the EU was rough and produced several stinkers. This isn't the worst of them, but it is close.
This has always been my favorite Star Wars novel.
