I generally have a hard time with poetry-- I don't read much of it-- but these were really lovely. Maya Angelou's writing is powerful, inspirational, and passionate. "Phenomenal Woman" is a great poem celebrating women, but the one that caught my attention in particular was "Our Grandmothers", recounting how women of the past have paved the way, in often painful and difficult times, for the generations after.

A very short collection, but a good one to start my summer of learning more about poetry from the best! What I admire most about all of her poetry is how sure of herself she is- in message and in form.
