2.5* i don't know how to rate this because its actually not a bad book? danteval is my favourite couple from this series but this book had the same issue i had with twisted bonds. it starts off from dante's pov from before he got married to carla all the way to falling for valentina and having anna and the rest of the book is pretty much remo's book being rehashed from the outfit's pov. anyways fina's abduction and what her entire family went through was so painful to read about from this side that it had me HATING remo by the end i was rooting for them to hurt him bad.

however this book really isn't a danteval book so much as it is about how dante dealt with his position as capo and the attacks on his family and danteval's relationship with their kids .personally i mostly only care about the romance the mafia stuff in this series don't interest me as much so i was kinda disappointed and i found myself skipping a lot of pages since it was just a repetition of twisted pride.
dark emotional fast-paced
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

no i won’t elaborate

dante and val’s ending isn’t worth five stars, no. it’s worth so much more.

from the moment i knew bound by the past was coming, i was filled with unbridled excitement and just a surge of emotions, because bound by duty had laid down the complexity of dante’s character, making me crave more and want to really see inside of his mind. we know him as dante f***ing cavallaro and we know him as chicago’s cold fish. but there was nothing, absolutely nothing to prepare for this novel. as much as dante loved to wear his shield and be aloof, there’s so much more to his character and his growth and development did not fall on blind eyes in this. his chemistry with val in just words written in this book is off the charts — quite literally, they make the most powerful duo i know. the cavallaro pride is unmistakable and they’re really built their own little empire with anna, leonas and beatrice. the ending was so beautifully satisfying, leaving me wistfulness for their story to go on and on. i’m so glad i got to be on this ride with them, they’re forever going to be in my heart <3

Anna Cavallaro & Santino 10y gap supremacy por favor.

Now,
How to rate a book, that makes you feel like you've read 10 books all at once? This exhausted me, and gave me new energy. It was a long, tough, wild conclusion to DanteVal's (previously) unrequited love story. I loved ALMOST every second of it.

i mean was this book really necessary?? when i heard we were getting a second book on dante and valentina i thought things were gonna pick up after we left off in twisted pride, but no, i guess we needed to have 50% of the book dedicated to recapping everything we've already read several times throughout the born in blood mafia chronicles but from dante's pov. wasn't it better to just have dante's pov in bound by duty and be done with it? i've noticed that's something cora reilly does, she repeats the exact same events SEVERAL times in different books but from different pov's, and i don't know about you, but it really puts me off having to read the exact same plotlines over and over again.

things picked up after the half-way mark, and it was, coincidentally, when the falcones entered the stage. again, repetition of the events from twisted pride, nothing new to see here except for seeing dante not knowing what the hell to do when confronted with any kind of problems in the outfit. at this point i'm asking myself, does dante even know how to be a capo at all?? every single thing that happens in his territory he's unable to deal with or to find a solution to, instead, he just waits until the whole thing gets resolved in some way where he doesn't have to make any decisions at all. let's see:

* dante throwing anyone under the bus so long as his precious daughter never gets an arranged marriage. he literally could not care less about giving away other people's daughters (literally his own nieces) just as long as his family was not touched. so, does he care about the outfit or only about his family? if he cares so much about his daughter not being in an arranged marriage then why the hell does he not make this tradition stop? or is it because he just does not give a flying fuck about other girls, just his anna? and just like that, there were other examples where i saw his double standards and i ain't fucking with that.

* every scuderi leaving the outfit for the famiglia. i mean, if every single person started defecting from your mafia family for another i'd be concerned about WHY they keep doing that and try to change that. but we all know dante did absolutely nothing to try to introduce changes in the ways of the outfit.

* valentina's brother defecting because he wanted to marry an asian woman and of course that's frowned upon in the outfit. i mean dante, can you even change ANYTHING about your mobster family's medieval mindset???? is that too much to ask??

* the whole thing with rocco and dante's lack of caring about what the hell happened to fabiano. like, it's not just any soldier that went missing it was the teenage SON of your consigliere, potentially your FUTURE consigliere, that disappeared from thin air and you don't even look for him or investigate what happened to him???

* serafina gets kidnapped by the camorra, and dante never ONCE had a plan on what the hell to do to get her back. just hope for the best and expect remo to hand fina over eventually.

yeah, i felt for him a lot of the times that i mentioned above, but honey, if you can't deal with the problems of running a goddamn mafia family then maybe you're not fit to be the leader at all. i think leonas is gonna be leagues better than his father ever was, #sorrynotsorry.
overall, dante is my least favorite capo because i genuinely think he's not even fit to rule a single block of a neighborhood and y'all can come for me, but the facts remain true and so far, every hurdle trown his way he's been unable to deal with.

“I’m not drawing back from you, Val. You are my lifeline. You and our children.”

What I liked the most about BBTP was the family dynamic and the fact that there were a lot of time jumps so you could see the evolution of the relationships between Dante, Valentina, Anna and Leonas. I’m excited to see more of Anna and Leonas in the next series! However, I didn’t really enjoy the plot around Dante’s betrayals because a lot of the scenes were already told in previous books so it felt too repetitive and a lot of things didn’t bring anything new to the story.

this was an okay book i guess, i don't know why but i truly was expecting more, my expectations were higher and the story didn't live up to it. At times it felt very repetitive and i wasn't reading anything new, anything that i didn't read before, and reading the same but from another pov wasn't that exciting

I liked the family scenes, anna and leonas are cute and unique in their own way and im excited for the upcoming books.

I’m so glad Cora decided on dual perspectives for this one, getting to see Dante’s thoughts on the events of the first book as well as the ones in this one definitely changed my opinion on him as a character and Dante and Val as a couple.
I’m excited to see Anna and Leonas in TSOTF and how who their love interests will be!

dante and val’s story is so special. i adored this book. dante’s character development is sublime and i loved every minute of it.
