Interesting characters with second thoughts you wouldn't expect; no tiring monologues; action and drama; alas, the ending didn't satisfy. Still 4 stars for some very remarkable feminist lines.

okay so I have very mixed feelings about this play. I haven't read as many 'traditional' old plays it seems, but this felt very much of that. A small cast of characters, in a home, who all say/set out to do one thing, but the very opposite of that thing happens along the way. quite a curfluffle. I think the way the opposite happened was quite interesting and had lots of fun with some the of absurd lines, but it is all oh so neat and tidy. while pieces are surprising, nothing out of the ordinary/shocking really felt like it happened. It was just that, an exposition of the opposites. Maybe that was the point, showing the ghosts, or the shadows. Ah. I seem to have found a new piece in this reflection.

I read this today, October 5, 2018.

This is how I know we‰ЫЄre going backwards as a society. I‰ЫЄm reading things that were written over 100 years ago (on the other side of the world), and they could have been written yesterday (here in the U.S.).

This play is oddly relevant today. Ironically, it‰ЫЄs not relevant because this is October, a month in which I like to read ghost stories.

It‰ЫЄs about a (white) dude who does all this bad stuff, and about the women he did it to who have to bear all the consequences. And no one can talk about it because they‰ЫЄre the ones that will look bad by besmirching his name. And in the end, the women are blamed - and blame themselves for it.

Here‰ЫЄs what‰ЫЄs crazy: Wikipedia says ‰ЫПGhosts is a scathing commentary on 19th-century morality‰Ыќ. Huh. It‰ЫЄs also a scathing commentary on 21st-century morality.

May we all be free of the ghosts of those that went before us.

Google it if you want to find a free copy to read (or listen to).

Ghosts! ‰Ы_I almost think we are all of us ghosts‰Ы_It is not only what we have inherited from our father and mother that "walks" in us. It is all sorts of dead ideas, and lifeless old beliefs, and so forth. They have no vitality, but they cling to us all the same, and we cannot shake them off.
