Lots of amazing lines, especially, "It is the very mark of the spirit of rebellion to crave for happiness in this life." But it leaves everything a depressing mess... just like real life I guess.

Plot or Character Driven: Character

Taking my time reading this really made me appreciate it the second time around. I really want to annotate my copy and highlight my favourite quotes.

Ok so I didn't have the time to give this a proper review when I first rated it and marked it read.

Would you leave a loved one to his/her own devices because he/she asked you to, or would you stay and intervene for their betterment? That's the basic question that this play makes us ask ourselves.

This is an amazing play in three acts. Everything fits together s well that, even if you saw it coming, you cannot help but be surprised in how it unfolds. We still have a strong yet trapped female lead in the widowed Alving. We get comedy from a lack of insurance and a strip club, and a woman who decides to be a dancer by the end. It's just wonderful!

It's a hard and bitter play to read, since it shows that despite good intentions, the expectations of what society and family obligations hold over people weigh heavily and ultimately destroy the people that uphold them in expense of their own happiness. It's more of a warning to not be subsumed by these things and live, rather than focus your entire life and being on them.

I felt horrible for Oswald and his mother, since they were the ones that paid the heaviest price of them all. Regina as well, except that she can still rebuild, despite the rest of them being doomed from the start.

Still hurts reading it, but a brilliant play all the same.

An interesting follow up to A Doll's House. Very much a continuation. Enjoyed but did not love. Think I would enjoy studying to reading.
