Carly was really giving 2012 fanfiction main character with her “i’m not like other girls, no one would find plain old me attractive, i only wear black and Doc Martens” and it was annoying. the first major twist was good but i guessed the later one right away, so after
the halfway mark
the story felt predictable

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“They Never Learn” by Layne Fargo was an incredible feminist psychological thriller. I’ve never loved a villain so much as I did Dr. Scarlett Clark. There’s some sort of bizarre draw with the murderer being a woman. Obviously, the male victims not taking her seriously nor feeling threatened helps Scarlett to stalk and kill her prey.

The duel storylines/POVs between Carly and Scarlett was well done and a perfect way to tie loose ends. The rather honourable motives, unique killing methods, and true crime vibes added to the well written character development. The plot kept me in the edge of my seat and surprised me along the way. I stayed up too late to finish this.

It’s clear as to the reasons why some readers more than others, may connect with the story more so due to the BS many of us have had to deal with throughout our entire lives. Whether that’s from experiencing or witnessing sexual assault/harassment, catcalling, domestic violence, or just dealing with fragile and toxic masculinity that we need to tiptoe around to stay safe. It’s exhausting. This book highlighted those struggles, and gave us an anti-hero to cheer on while she taught those monsters a lesson.

If you enjoy thrillers, I definitely recommend this one. Happy reading and stay safe!! 📚
