I liked a lot of parts of this book but didn’t like others. Will might be my favorite (but I say that after each of their books)
This was lowkey my fav in the series??? I LOVE the kids and wanna see their gen have their reign in this town. I LOVE Madden with my whole soul and resonate with his issues with sounds and food particulars as a fellow neurodivergent kid. I wish we would find out what he and Octavia get up to when they’re older!!

It was nice to read about them again, but other than that it wasn’t something special. The best part about the this novel was to read from mads point of view.
Overall series rating: 3.5 Stars
Though I didn't overly enjoy every single book in this series, I really loved it as a whole. The world of Thunder Bay is a fantasy world—in a dark and sexed-up Indiana Jones kind of way, with people doing impossible things without getting caught, big secrets and secret places, wild rides, twisted characters and outright strechted realities. One could say that I'm truly a sucker for Penelope's special brand of crazy.
I was intrigued in Corrupt, fell in love with Damon in Hideaway, was surprisingly bored by him in Kill Switch, didn't understand Conclave and was SO in love with Will in Nightfall—for the first 75 %, that is.
Nightfall would've been a 4-bordering-5-stars rating if it wasn't so frayed out after that. Emmy's and Will's past was EVERYTHING, I did not expect them to break my heart the way they did, and while it wasn't pretty at all, it was full of unexpected beauty. In the end, Alex's story and the long-ass epilogue took too much from their story and ruined Nightfall for me, and I would've enjoyed a follow-up novella so much more.
Speaking of follow-up novella: Fire Night was a fast, fun read, and I hope Penelope will write Mad's story some day. I've got the feeling that she's the rare kind of author who's got the skills to write a genuine neurodivers character.

I’m such a sucker for extended epilogues with everyone as one big happy family and this was...almost that (minus the minor kidnapping plotline lmao). Not sure what cousin-cest is being set up between Tavi and Mads but tbh it wasn't even a deal breaker. I could read a whole spinoff series about the kids and I’m actually quite sad to be leaving Thunder Bay and their fun Devil’s Night and Fire Night traditions.
P.S. the fact that Damon and Winter ended up with a whole coven of kids just to get a daughter made me actually cackle
ALSO wtf was Damon’s gift??!? I wanna knowwwww
