IMO, this should be read after the Night Angel trilogy.

The perfect shadow does take place before it, however, you will totally feel lost without the knowledge of the world created and built upon in the trilogy. Also I think there is a greater appreciation for the easter eggs scattered throughout the novella. Keep in mind the writing style used by Brent Weeks in the novella was an experiment with a new writing prose and can be a bit jarring at the start.

I, Night angel (definitely to be read after the trilogy) the short story is amazing and awesome and I loved it to bits. Hoping that that style pulled through to his later work Night Angel Nemesis.

A great glimpse into the Night Angel world, especially into the past of Durzo Blint. And yet it felt slightly rushed and unfulfilling.

Better the second time. Maybe helped that I hadn't read any of the other books in some time. Or maybe not. Review to come.

One novella, and a short story...oh how I wish it were longer. I was excited to dive back into the world of Midcyru, after reading the Night Angel Trilogy (my favorite series, mind you). It definitely left me wanting more from this author. In this novella we learn of Durzo Blint's past and how he became the powerful assassin that we see in the trilogy. The novella was action-packed, told a great story, and was very humerous at times. Brent Weeks (favorite author) never ceases to amaze me. I hope there is more to come in the world of Night Angel. All in all a fantastic read!

Short, entertaining, nothing spectacular, but a nice post Night Angel treat. We get a little more Durzo history / back story, see a little more of what makes him tick. I'd love to see more.. Like a full on prequel of his early history.. But for now this was a nice Night Angel fix.
