Mothership Zeta has been brilliant for the previous 5 issues. Issue 6 is no different.
My favourite pieces from this issue were;
(Fiction) Thursday In The Ice Fortress Of Zelatharia by Sarah Crowe. - I'm huge sucker for stories about Villains, sidekicks or even a villains minions. I'm also a huge fan of any story that experiments with a format that isn't your typical narrative. This story ticks all of my boxes and I loved it.
(Fiction) The Remora by Matthew Claxton. - This is a story that explores a complicated relationship between two characters. It's HUGELY relevant to modern internet culture and social interactions. Also there are giant animatronic coloured bears! (The cover art on this issue by Elizabeth Leggett is based upon this story and is amazing!) The pay off at the end was the best!
(Non-Fiction) Repositories Of Wonder by Jeremy Brett. - An interesting piece on the work to collect and curate material by SF and Fantasy authors for posterity and future study. I now want to visit the archives of Texas A&M if I ever find myself in Texas!
(Fiction) The Legendary Legend Of The Darkly's Slayer by J. R. Dawson. I love a good story that explores a popular trope, doesn't take it too seriously and turns it inside out. This is just such a story. Featuring Prophecy, Hero and destiny - and a girl called Annie who isn't important AT ALL! Very fun!
(Fiction) Montreal, 2014 by Madeline Ray. - An interesting short story about the Sphinx and an unusual new relationship with a human in modern day Montreal. I'm not sure why this story was so enjoyable - but it was very much so!
There were many other stories in this issue, none of which I found to be bad at all - but the ones I've listed above were my favourites in this issue. I really hope Mothership Zeta comes back for more issues. It's a great little zine that deserves to live on!
