Egg Marks the Spot (Skunk and Badger 2) by Amy Timberlake was a pretty fun read with my kid. I haven't read the first book in the series, and feel like this is fine as a stand-alone (perhaps my rating would be higher having read the first book?).

There were a few plot points that were confusing to both of us (such as the agreement with Mr. Hedgehog), and a better lesson could have been learned for standing up for yourself. A good book about the growing bonds of friendship and being there for each other, and some nice humor. Overall, an okay read.

Thanks to Algonquin Young Readers for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I just finished reading this book to a 3rd grade class and we all enjoyed it very much. I hope we can look forward to more books about Skunk and Badger. The books are delightful!

I loved the first Skunk & Badger and got so excited to see this one! Skunk is wanting to avoid the pesky animal who made his life miserable by stealing Skunk's copy of the New Yak Times Book Review (Yaks do the best reviews, don't you know?) out of Skunk's newspaper every Sunday. So Skunk talks Badger into going on a rock finding mission at Endless Lake. The place where Badger's love of rocks was ignited by the finding of his first and favourite Spider-Eye Agate. The very Agate that was subsequently stolen by Badger's cousin Fisher.

Badger's Important Rock Work is disturbed when he encounters Fisher who has not changed his dastardly ways at all in the years since he stole the agate from Badger. But this time Fisher has is greedy eyes on something much more important than Badger's rocks!
Will Skunk, Badger and the Chickens be able to stop Fisher from taking the Chicken's sacred Egg?

This is a funny and wonderfully told story with some big themes going on: bullying, cultural heritage, and friendship, all told in such a child-friendly and approachable way that kids and adults will love the story and can have further discussions if they want. It is never preachy or heavy-handed.

Recommended for readers 5+. Would make a great bedtime story or classroom reader.
